Henry Nemeth Obituary (1939 - 2023)

NEMETH, Henry -age 83, naturally and peacefully passed away at Hospice of Dayton late Thursday morning, September 28, 2023. He is survived by two sons, Derek and Mark (Jeane), sister-in-law Elisabeth, two nieces, Frieda and Heidi, as well as close family members Mike Davis and Steve Hoagland. Henry was born in Gyonk, Hungary on Thursday, December 21,1939. His parents, John Sr. and Elizabeth, immigrated to the United States in 1950, bringing along their two sons, John Jr. and Henry for the expected, new opportunities in America. Henry took full advantage of every opportunity presented: he began an internship with Mead, Inc. before leaving high school and continued as a full employee after graduation. Early on in his career, he spent time on leave from Mead to proudly serve in the US Air Force as a Senior Airman, Medic in the 1960's. Once his rotation in the Air Force was complete, he returned to full duties at Mead, taking on ever-increasing responsibility throughout his 30+ year tenure, rising to senior management ranks. He did so through persistence and dedication to support his family of four by enabling Mead to be his vehicle for expanding his education to address broader roles in the industry: while working full-time in his career's early years, he attended night classes at Wright State University, achieving his Bachelor's of Arts degree in Business, which provided him the foundations for one of his major accomplishments, that of transforming Mead's classic "Rail and Transportation" design in facilities' and plant exchange to a modern "Logistics" design. Henry was a dedicated father and husband, and he valued family above all; maintaining strong relationships with his parents and extended family here in the states, as well as relations in Europe. He had a strong network of friends from his early years at Mead with whom he maintained communications into his final days. In retirement, he tirelessly pursued a number of interests, including his ever-expand investment portfolio; he volunteered at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dayton and even served on its board for a time. He also delighted in traveling around our great nation. Henry was dedicated to his wife, Jean, with whom he spent his later years. When she was diagnosed with cancer, he relentlessly sought every avenue for her cure and continued happiness. They will finally be reunited when he is laid to rest by her side. Family will receive friends for a viewing and visitation at Schlientz & Moore Funeral Home, Friday evening October 06, 2023 from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral Service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church on Saturday morning at 11am in downtown Dayton at 141 Ludlow St. with Full Military Honors and burial to immediately follow at Woodland Cemetery.
